GT 38: Crianças e Infâncias Luso-Afro-Brasileiras: olhares transnacionais e diversidades em diálogo

Na crescente busca pelo alargamento e consolidação de laços científicos entre Portugal (e suas comunidades), Brasil e os países africanos de língua oficial portuguesa, e num momento em que se estabelecem acordos que procuram estreitar a cooperação, julgamos que seja oportuno lançar um olhar sobre as crianças destes países e, conjuntamente, encontrar um espaço de reflexão sobre a diversidade contida na multiplicidade das suas infâncias, no modo como entendem o mundo social que as rodeia e conforma as suas circunstâncias de vida, e, ainda, na capacidade e habilidade que demonstram para transformá-lo.

Esta comunicação visa analisar a influência da emigração açoriana para a América do Norte nas Festas do Espírito Santo dos Açores. Estas, ao serem recriadas nos EUA e no Canadá pelos emigrantes açorianos, ganharam novas formulações rituais, tanto no tocante aos personagens centrais das festas como ao nível dos alimentos e suas modalidades de circulação. Com base em dois estudos de caso, a comunicação visa analisar os impactos diferenciados - apropriação, sincretismo, indiferença, resistência, contra-aculturação - que algumas dessas inovações rituais tiverem nos Açores. Pretende-se assim contribuir para os debates em curso em torno dos modos de circulação de formas culturais associadas às migrações contemporâneas.

A Embaixada de Portugal em Berlim, com o patrocínio do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros e da Caixa Geral de Depósitos, abre um concurso de Bolsas de Estudo destinadas a estudantes portugueses que tenham concluído com reconhecido mérito, no ano de 2010, o Ensino Secundário Liceal alemão e estejam inscritos no Ensino Universitário, ou equivalente, alemão.

The Right Stuff

The Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) has launched a taster issue of "The Right Stuff" – the human rights magazine by and for children and young people.

Funded by Mediabox, the magazine features stories of children who have suffered rights violations, as well as inspirational accounts of children taking action, interviews with human rights activists and a dedicated under 10s section. The Right Stuff magazine was designed and written by more than 30 under 18 year-olds from across England, with the aim of promoting young people’s interest in children’s human rights and encouraging them to take action to achieve change for children.

Farflungfamilies.net is the website of a research project which examines the representation of the diasporic family in contemporary cinema. The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council of Great Britain. The website aims to provide information about relevant films and resources and forthcoming events, such as conferences and film screenings. Further features to be added include search functions and podcasts of conference presentations and round table discussions.

RN04 - Sociology of Children and Childhood

The Research Network aims to bring together scholars across Europe who are engaged in both theoretical and empirical work on children and childhood. We have organised successful Sociology of Childhood Streams at the last six ESA Conferences (1999- 2009). The general theme of the 2011 conference is ‘social relations in turbulent times’, and the various sessions will address children’s lives and social relations in the context of societal change. We invite abstracts on the following themes:

1. Children’s social relations and everyday lives
2. Children as victims, witnesses and perpetrators of crime and violence
3. Children and migration
4. Child poverty and child work
5. Children’s rights, citizenship and participation
6. Trust dynamics in children’s lives

Throughout the three waves of immigration and to the present, the Portuguese have had a cultural, linguistic, demographic, and socioeconomic impact in the United States and Canada. How have the Portuguese populations of the United States and Canada integrated/assimilated into their respective adopted nations through the generations? What changes in education, occupation, political participation and use of the Portuguese language have taken place? What mark have the Portuguese made on their respective communities and how do they maintain their cultural boundaries?
This two-day conference will bring together a cadre of international scholars to address these questions and more. The conference organizers are seeking presentations from researchers of Portuguese ethnic studies, sociologists, linguists, educators, political scientists and others with expertise in the Portuguese language, culture, identity and socioeconomic integration in the United States and Canada.

Prémio Fernão Mendes Pinto (edição 2011)

O Prémio Fernão Mendes Pinto destina-se a galardoar anualmente uma tese de mestrado ou doutoramento que contribua para a aproximação das comunidades de língua portuguesa, defendida durante o ano civil anterior.

As propostas deverão ser apresentadas por Universidades ou Institutos de Investigação Científica de países de língua portuguesa e deverão dar entrada na AULP até ao dia 30 de Maio de 2011.

Bolsa para professores e/ou investigadores portugueses com doutoramento ou doutorandos que desejem leccionar e/ou realizar trabalhos de investigação em universidades ou centros de investigação nos E.U.A.. Áreas de Estudo: Linguística, Didática, Pedagogia do Ensino das Línguas, Literatura, Formação à Distância, Comunicação, Sociologia, Ciência Política, História, História Contemporânea, Relações Internacionais, Artes Plásticas, Artes Performativas. Estas áreas deverão estar circunscritas a temas de Língua e Cultura Portuguesas, sendo dada, igualmente, prioridade a projectos de especial relevância para as relações culturais luso-americanas.
As candidaturas deverão ser submetidas online até dia 28 de Fevereiro de 2011.
